“Salsa, the Official Sponsor of Portugal's Olympic Team”
Salsa dresses the Portuguese Mission up in denim for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games
Lisbon, June 17, 2016 - Salsa, a Portuguese denim brand, presents the official uniforms for the Olympic Committee of Portugal (OCP) and the Paralympic Committee of Portugal (PCP).
After officially announcing in December 2015 that they would develop the uniforms for the Portuguese Mission at the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the Portuguese brand will parade at the Opening Ceremony, as well as in all official representations of the OCP and PCP, with pieces that have been exclusively designed by the Salsa styling department.
The uniforms, formal and informal in total look denim and inspired by the Patch trend, have official and decorative emblems, such as the heart of Viana filigree, the flag of Portugal, excerpts from the Portuguese anthem, and the Order of Christ cross, albeit with a more modern and youthful look.
The tradition of Portugal, the discoveries, the blue sea and its energy, were the starting point for creating something different and closely bound to Salsa's DNA, breaking away from the classic uniforms usually used.
"Salsa has long wished to work with a national movement as important as this one, and the association with the OCP and PCP is indeed a winner. We share common values and it is truly a very important milestone in the history of Salsa, and we are, of course, very happy to be able to include our DNA, Denim, in this initiative "says Filipe Vila Nova, Founder of Salsa.
For the President of the Olympic Committee of Portugal, José Manuel Constantino, this is an important moment on the way to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games: "Getting a national brand as prestigious as Salsa to become associated to the Olympic Committee of Portugal and dress the Mission up for such an important moment as the opening ceremony of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games will be, is very satisfying. It will be symbolic for us and certainly for Salsa too, as it is a brand that shares some of the fundamental principles of Olympism in its day-to-day business, in the company's philosophy, and in the relationships with the employees. "
Reinforcing and confirming the previous statement, Humberto Santos, President of the Paralympic Committee of Portugal says: "Having a national company associated so strongly and actively with the Paralympic Movement is such a great source of pride for us. Salsa is a prestigious brand that is developing a dynamic and bold fashion line specifically for the Rio 2016 Mission, and it is certain to be surprising. We hope that it will be the beginning of a long and successful partnership and it is with great satisfaction that we welcome Salsa to our Paralympic Family".
After 20 years of dedication to DENIM, creating and reinventing what it does best, Salsa is now associated to this exciting and challenging project, reinforcing the brand's sense of innovation and going even further by dressing the Portuguese athletes in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games up in denim.
